Our visit to Northern California was complete when we came upon The Lost Coast Cafe in Ferndale. The apple pie was delicious, especially the crust. The bread pudding filled with apples, raisins and berries was fantastic. Thank you Mario for the friendly service too.

Fantastic vegetarian cuisine! I had chili with cornbread for lunch, and for the road, home-baked scones and coffee-cake. Very inexpensive, and worth the 5 minute drive from Hwy 101. Also, Mario is a very pleasant host.

On our recent trip to Humboldt, we found ourselves in Ferndale round breakfast time. Any vegan knows that finding decent food on the road is problematic, esp. in rural areas, so to stumble upon the Lost Coast Cafe was like a gift from the gods. Great service and FAB food! We made an impromtu second trip to Ferndale the next day just to eat there again (alas, it was their Mon. closed day). And this is not a vegetarian cafe only a veggie can love; I recommend it to anyone wanting a fresh, friendly, tasty meal. Thanks for being a highlight of our trip.

I ordered the adult grilled cheese to go and walked back to the office. When I sat down to eat, the salad had made my bread soggy, but the sandwich itself was great. The flavor was worth the soggy bread and I’d do it again.

I went here on Valentine’s Day with my family and we enjoyed a delightful meal. The owner is super nice and does all the cooking himself. Our food was delicious! I had a Greek omelette, which came with a homemade heart-shaped roll, cantaloupe, and crispy potatoes with a bit of pesto. My mom’s apple scone was to die for, and we were served a complimentary bowl of berries and cream. It is such a sweet place and we felt great about supporting this man’s hard work and talent. We’ll be back.

My fiance and I were wandering down the main street of Ferndale today and the weather was horrendous! We both kept seeing the sign out front for the little bakery on other visits and really needed to get out of the wind and rain, plus the smells coming out of the little nook were so enticing. Talk about a diamond in the rough! You almost wouldn’t think twice about the little bistro that’s wedged between the older two story shops, but it has its own allure.
Oh, but the food. Oooh, the food! Spectacular! Wonderous styles of breads, wraps covered in so many assorted vegetables, cheeses and other wondrous eats. Probably the best place to eat in Ferndale, even against the larger restaurants!

We just visited Ferndale today on a spur of the moment. We wandered into Lost Coast Cafe and were really surprised. The food looked so yummy! Everything was so fresh, and the calzone type thing that we had was so yummy… it was a pastry shaped like a calzone with kale and chard, black olives and broccoli and Gorgonzola cheese in it! The pastry was light and flaky and so good! I wanted to take another one to have for later but knew my waistline would not be happy! It was so good. I am recommending it to everyone I know. Lost Coast Cafe, you are yummy!!!

We visited Ferndale on our way up the coast last week and ate at The Lost Coast Bakery. The salads were the best and the baker, Kelly, was there and baking bread. It smelled and tasted so good, we bought some to take to our friends. She gave us a sample of the little pie crust things your mom used to make so we bought some to take with us, but they didn’t make it to our friends. We ate all of them! Will stop again when we come through. Thank you Ferndale.

I was traveling by and happened in on this lovely cafe bakery. Everything made from scratch and fresh. Mario’s soup was great, and Kelly the baker gave us “those little pie crust things your mom used to make.” What a nice time. I would tell anyone go there.
    Thanks, Gloria Dunn

Mario’s breakfasts are the best we’ve ever had! The omelettes are just delicious! Try them all! The little scrumptious potatos with pesto sauce complement the meal perfectly.

Oh my gosh. I love eating here. I’m not vegetarian YET, but I will be soon if Mario keeps cooking for me and my kids. I didn’t expect to be able to eat guilt free, be full and totally enjoy my meal. When I say totally enjoy my meal. I mean it. The food is so beautiful, it seems a crime to eat it. Luckily, it smells so good, you just have to dig in, and then the enjoyment is mmmmmm deliciouso. I never thought eggplant was worth eating, but now I can’t get enough of it! Thanks Mario. See you soon for Focacce Pizza, and Extreme Ginger Beer!

We had one of the most delicious lunches of our 10 days in Northern California, at the Lost Coast Café and Bakery in lovely Ferndale.

Handcrafted mushroom soup, and chili, enchanted with sunflower seeds and grated carrots, wonderful. Fresh salad and a muffin alongside, fantastic. All served with friendship, and consumed in an outdoor courtyard.
    Thanks.

A friend and I had a chance to go to the new bakery in town, Lost Coast Café & Bakery. Mario Lorenzo, owner and baker, whipped together some wonderful scones. I can’t believe he was able to pack that much taste into a Vegan Scone – no butter, no eggs, no milk! How did he do it? I don’t know, but while we were purchasing our scones, he popped two beautifully risen loaves of bread on the counter. Fresh Bread? Fresh Scones? Baked right here in town? I’ll never be able to get past his bakery without running in to get something!
